Ryan Reynolds has filed a motion to be dropped as a defendant in Justin Baldoni’s $400 million defamation lawsuit, arguing that Baldoni’s claims lack legal merit and amount to little more than “hurt feelings.”
The lawsuit, which also names Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, alleges that Reynolds defamed Baldoni by calling him a “predator” on two occasions. However, Reynolds’ legal team contends that this statement was a constitutionally protected opinion. They also claim that Reynolds has no formal involvement in the legal dispute between Lively and Baldoni, aside from being a “supportive spouse.”
Baldoni’s lawsuit accuses Reynolds of interfering with the production of It Ends With Us, including rewriting scenes and secretly making script changes. Baldoni also claims Reynolds ridiculed him through the Deadpool & Wolverine character “Nicepool” and attempted to sabotage his career by calling him a “sexual predator” to a WME executive.
Reynolds’ attorneys argue that the actor is being targeted because of Baldoni’s business partner, Steve Sarowitz, who allegedly pledged up to $100 million to “ruin” Lively and Reynolds. They maintain that Baldoni’s lawsuit is baseless and expect it to be dismissed.
With the trial set for March 2026, if the judge denies Reynolds’ motion, he could be called to testify in what is shaping up to be a high-profile legal battle in Hollywood.
