The Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA), co-founded by Novak Djokovic, has filed an antitrust lawsuit against the ATP, WTA, ITF, and the sport’s integrity agency, accusing them of running a “cartel” that controls player pay and working conditions. Filed in a New York federal court, the lawsuit claims these governing bodies restrict prize money and off-court earnings, violating competition laws.
The PTPA also submitted complaints in Europe and the UK, arguing for a structural overhaul of professional tennis. Defendants, including the ATP and WTA, have vowed to fight the lawsuit, calling it “baseless” and highlighting recent player compensation increases.
Though Djokovic is not listed as a plaintiff, other players, including Nick Kyrgios and Vasek Pospisil, are involved. The PTPA insists the move is necessary to create fairer conditions for players and ensure their concerns are taken seriously.
