Ferocious Winds Batter Southern Alberta as Environment Canada Issues Warning

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a wind warning for southern Alberta, including the Municipal District of Pincher Creek and Twin Butte. The alert, posted early Sunday, warns of strong winds exceeding 100 km/h, with gusts expected to intensify throughout the day.

“Winds will strengthen today near the Alberta foothills, with the strongest winds occurring by this afternoon,” the agency stated.

Lethbridge is also under a wind warning, with officials cautioning that the extreme gusts could cause damage to buildings, including roof shingles and windows. Loose objects may become airborne, posing risks of injury and property damage.

“Motorists, especially in high-profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong crosswinds,” the warning added.

Winds are expected to subside by Sunday night.

Alberta’s highway authority, @511Alberta, reported that Highway 22 near Twp Rd 91A north of Lundbreck has reopened after a semi-truck rolled over due to intense winds Saturday night.
