WestJet is rolling out new carry-on baggage sizing devices at its counters, adjusting its cabin baggage allowances to better align with industry standards. Effective May 6, 2025, the airline will shift from the current 21” x 15” x 9” allowance to 22” x 14” x 9”, allowing an extra inch in height (including wheels and handles) while reducing the width by one inch.
This update brings WestJet’s baggage policy in line with other airlines, including its codeshare partner Delta Airlines. The previous sizing had been a unique policy of the airline and a point of feedback from both passengers and employees over time.
“We expect this change will help streamline check-in and boarding times by eliminating the inconsistency between WestJet and several other carriers,” said Colleen Tynan, Vice President of Experience Management. “Introducing a new standard size ensures more bags fit on more flights, so we expect this to have a big impact on the overall experience on board.”
New baggage sizing devices will be installed at all WestJet-serviced airports by March 13, giving travelers ample time to adjust. Until the official transition on May 6, both the current and new baggage dimensions will be accepted.
