Armand Duplantis Shatters Pole Vault World Record Again with 6.27m Leap in France

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis broke the world pole vault record for the 11th time, clearing 6.27 meters at the All Star Perche meet in Clermont-Ferrand, France, on Friday. The two-time Olympic and world champion surpassed his previous record of 6.26m, set in Silesia last August, on his first attempt, triggering fireworks that illuminated the arena.

“I just felt really good,” Duplantis said. “What can I say, I came here to do it. I put everything in place to do it. The run-up worked really well. I just did it.”

Emmanouil Karalis secured second place with a Greek record clearance of 6.02m, as six men cleared 5.91m or higher in the same competition for the first time in history. The 25-year-old Duplantis, who earlier released his debut song “Bop” under the nickname “Mondo,” effortlessly cleared 5.65m, 5.91m, 6.02m, and 6.07m before attempting 6.27m with the victory already secured. His song played over the arena’s speakers as he set the new world record.

“When I made this song a couple of months ago, I thought this would be a perfect song to jump to here. That’s why I rushed it out,” Duplantis added.

Since 2020, Duplantis has raised the world record by a centimeter on 11 occasions, breaking his mark four times in the past 11 months alone. Before his dominance, France’s Renaud Lavillenie held the world record of 6.16m, set in 2014.
