Meghan Markle’s New Netflix Show Faces Accusations of Copying Pamela Anderson’s Series

Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix series With Love, Meghan is facing criticism as fans claim it closely resembles Pamela Anderson’s cooking show. Social media users have pointed out striking similarities between the two shows, from their themes to their aesthetics, accusing Meghan of copying the Baywatch star.

The controversy erupted after Meghan revealed the trailer for her new lifestyle series in January, marking her return to social media after a five-year break. The show is set to premiere on Netflix on March 4. Meanwhile, Anderson’s Pamela’s Cooking with Love debuted on the Flavour Network on Monday, with its promotional video having been released in October 2024—three months before Meghan’s trailer surfaced.

Viewers have noted similarities in the shows’ titles, their focus on organic living, and their visual style, as both feature the hosts picking fresh produce from their gardens and working with professional chefs in the kitchen. Even the opening lines of their trailers share a parallel structure. Anderson begins her video by saying, “I love to cook. I just always have wanted to take things to another level,” while Meghan’s starts with, “I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it.”

Despite the resemblance, some have defended Meghan, arguing that all lifestyle shows follow similar formats. Supporters suggest that if Meghan is copying Anderson, then Anderson is merely following in the footsteps of lifestyle moguls like Martha Stewart.

The backlash against With Love, Meghan follows ongoing criticism of the Duchess of Sussex’s rebranded lifestyle brand, As Ever, which recently changed its name from American Riviera Orchard due to trademark concerns. The brand, which will sell fruit preserves and other products, is now facing accusations of copying a small Mallorcan town’s coat of arms in its logo design.

Further fueling controversy, New York designer Mark Kolski has also pointed out that Meghan’s rebrand shares the same name as his decade-old vintage-inspired fashion label, though his brand does not hold a registered trademark.

In Canada, where Anderson was born, the debate over With Love, Meghan has drawn significant attention, with some seeing it as an example of the ongoing scrutiny Meghan faces in the media. Canadian fans remain divided, with some calling the criticism unfair and others questioning the originality of her latest projects.
