Oscars Nominees Celebrate at Exclusive Pre-Awards Event in Los Angeles
Just days before the 97th Academy Awards, nominees gathered at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for a special Oscars orientation. The Tuesday night event replaced the traditional luncheon, which was canceled due to the Southern California wildfires.
With voting closed and winners already determined, the atmosphere was lively as Hollywood’s finest mingled. Best actress contenders Mikey Madison and Demi Moore exchanged hugs, while best actor favorites Timothée Chalamet and Adrien Brody shared a conversation.
During the class photo session at the David Geffen Theater, best actress nominee Cynthia Erivo excitedly led the group in a celebratory cheer. She was joined by fellow nominees Ariana Grande, Monica Barbaro, Zoe Saldaña, and Madison, who continued their lively discussion as they made their way to dinner.
Other stars, including best actor nominees Sebastian Stan, Colman Domingo, and Brody, were seen sitting together. Academy President Janet Yang later took the stage to welcome both first-time and returning nominees, recognizing industry veterans like Denis Villeneuve and 16-time nominee Diane Warren. She stressed the importance of community and support amidst the challenging circumstances and reminded everyone of the 45-second limit for acceptance speeches.
The night remained lighthearted, with moments of spontaneity—Grande even called for a reshoot when a late-arriving nominee joined in. Chalamet took time to greet reporters, while nominees from various categories, including sound mixers and short film creators, were treated as equals alongside A-list stars.
The evening was filled with camaraderie, from Isabella Rossellini and Madison bonding over dog photos to Rossellini discussing her farm animals with producer Samantha Quan. Director Brady Corbet briefly joined the group but stepped aside when they gathered for a photo, citing concerns about spreading illness.
Fashion choices ranged from glamorous evening gowns worn by Madison, Grande, and Moore to Rossellini’s smoking jacket and Strong’s casual bomber jacket and sneakers. Chalamet sported a sleek black denim-inspired ensemble with a gold chain.
As the event wrapped up, media and publicists stepped aside while nominees sat for an exclusive dinner. Notable absentees included Elton John, Ralph Fiennes, and Karla SofÃa Gascón, but for those in attendance, the night served as a memorable prelude to Hollywood’s biggest evening.
