Binance Official Alleges $150 Million Bribe Demand by Nigerian Lawmakers

Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime, has accused three Nigerian lawmakers of demanding a $150 million bribe during his detention by the Nigerian government. Gambaryan and another Binance official were held on accusations of money laundering and fostering criminal activities but were later released after U.S. government intervention led to the charges being dropped.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gambaryan named Peter Akpanke, Philip Agbese, and Ginger Obinna Onwusibe as the lawmakers involved. Notably, Onwusibe chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Corruption, while Agbese serves as the deputy spokesperson of the House.

Gambaryan claimed the lawmakers demanded the bribe, payable in cryptocurrency to personal wallets, during a staged meeting that included fake cameras to simulate legitimacy. He described the situation as a “Mickey Mouse operation” but provided no documentary evidence to support his allegations.

Efforts to obtain responses from the accused lawmakers are ongoing, though the House of Representatives has previously denied any bribery demands involving Binance officials.
