Catch Colin James Live in North Bay on His Chasing the Sun Tour

Colin James is returning to North Bay, bringing his highly anticipated Chasing the Sun tour to the Capitol Centre on Sunday, Feb. 16. Special guest Terra Lightfoot will open the show.

“I am super excited to get back out on the road soon to play some live shows with my band after recovering for the last few months from my accident,” said James. His recovery followed a car accident last September that cut short his U.S. tour.

Now fully recovered and armed with his new album, James is eager to hit the road. Speaking from his Vancouver home after performing on a Blues Cruise alongside Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and other blues legends, James shared his enthusiasm about rehearsing with his band ahead of the tour’s 19-stop run, which kicks off in Ottawa on Feb. 7.

Reflecting on his career, James said, “If it’s something that you want to do for life, then you have to realize there’s a long arc there. In my life already I’ve had 20 records out and I’ve gone from playing acoustic stuff to little big band stuff to straight-out rock and roll.”

Known for his versatility and willingness to take risks, James has explored multiple genres throughout his career. From his self-titled debut in 1988, which introduced hits like “Five Long Years” and “Voodoo Thing,” to the Juno-winning Second Stop featuring “Just Came Back,” James has proven his staying power in the industry. Over the years, he’s performed alongside icons like Albert Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Keith Richards.

James’ latest album, Chasing the Sun, was recorded in Nashville and Vancouver, featuring collaborations with renowned artists like Lucinda Williams, who co-wrote and sang on the opening track, “Protection.” The album also reunites James with Darryl Jones and Charley Drayton, acclaimed musicians who have worked with The Rolling Stones and Miles Davis.

The album leans into medium-tempo blues rock, blending the warm tones of the Hammond organ with James’ signature jaw-dropping guitar solos. James, a longtime Fender aficionado, shared that his favorite guitar remains his teal-blue Fender Stratocaster, affectionately called “The Lady,” which he received upon signing an endorsement deal in 1988.

Tickets for the show at the Capitol Centre are $75 each or $70 for members. They are selling fast and can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 705-474-4747. Don’t miss your chance to see Colin James perform live and experience both his latest tracks and timeless classics.
