Winnipeg Police Investigate Homicide After Berens River First Nation Man Found Unresponsive in Weston

A 34-year-old man from Berens River First Nation has died following an assault in Winnipeg’s Weston neighborhood, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities.

Winnipeg police were called to the area of Blake Street near Logan Avenue just before 7 a.m. on Sunday in response to a report of a man who had been attacked. Upon arrival, officers conducted a search with assistance from the K-9 unit and discovered the victim, identified as Justin Boulanger, inside a suite within an apartment building.

According to Const. Stephen Spencer, officers provided immediate emergency medical treatment at the scene before Boulanger was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have officially classified Boulanger’s death as a homicide, though details regarding the severity of his injuries or the circumstances of the assault remain undisclosed. Investigators have not confirmed whether the attack was targeted or random.
