Canadian freestyle skier Marion Thénault soared to a bronze medal in the season-opening World Cup aerials event on Saturday night in Lake Placid, New York.
The Sherbrooke, Quebec native impressed with a final-round score of 90.94 points, securing her 11th career World Cup medal. She placed third behind reigning Olympic champion Xu Mengtao of China, who earned 95.52 points, and Australia’s Danielle Scott, who finished with 95.17 points.
Promising young talent Alexandra Montminy, an 18-year-old from Lac Beauport, Quebec, achieved a career-best 11th place with a score of 62.68 points.
Quebec City’s Alexandre Duchaine also delivered a solid performance, placing eighth in the men’s competition.
Looking ahead, Canada’s aerials team will compete on home snow later this month at the World Cup event in Lac Beauport, scheduled for January 25–26. Additionally, a mixed team aerials event, in which Thénault helped Canada secure bronze at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, was set to take place Sunday night in Lake Placid.
