Icelandair Launches New Reykjavik to Istanbul Route, Expanding Affordable Travel Options to Turkey for North American Travelers

Icelandair has announced a new direct route from Reykjavik to Istanbul, set to launch on September 5, 2025. This four-times-weekly service will provide North American travelers with a convenient and budget-friendly connection to Turkey, marking Icelandair’s continued expansion into new markets. The Reykjavik-Istanbul flight will take approximately five hours and 30 minutes, providing a new affordable travel option to Turkey, with one-way fares starting at around $406.

This expansion also builds on Icelandair’s codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines, enhancing access between Iceland and Turkey. Although there is no direct service from the United States, travelers from Icelandair’s extensive North American network—which includes cities like New York, Denver, Portland, and Chicago—can now connect seamlessly to Istanbul via Reykjavik.

According to Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason, the airline sees growing demand for connections between Iceland, Turkey, and Asia. “We are excited to continue reinforcing our route network, bringing new travel opportunities for our customers and boosting Iceland’s tourism,” Bogason said.

Icelandair’s hub-and-spoke model out of Reykjavik enables efficient one-stop connections between smaller U.S. cities and Europe. The airline’s free stopover program also allows travelers to enjoy Iceland’s natural wonders en route to their final destination. Additionally, Icelandair’s recent partnership with Southwest Airlines will allow Southwest customers to access Icelandair’s international flights, making the route to Turkey more accessible than ever for travelers across the U.S.
