A former Winnipeg hockey coach, Madison Biluk, has pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault and luring a teenage player, a case that has sparked serious discussions about safety within youth sports in Manitoba. Biluk, arrested in November 2023, was initially charged with over a dozen offences, including sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography. The offences reportedly occurred over two years, from 2019 to 2021, while Biluk was coaching a youth team, according to police records.
Police report that Biluk, who coached with Hockey Manitoba from 2018 to 2023, manipulated her position of trust, allegedly grooming the young player over time. The survivor first spoke publicly about the abuse on social media in October 2023, which brought the case to police attention. A tip from within the hockey organization prompted a police investigation, and the survivor ultimately came forward with her story.
Biluk, who is currently on bail with court-imposed conditions, was accompanied by family members during her court appearance this week. The court dismissed remaining charges unrelated to her plea. Besides Hockey Manitoba, Biluk held coaching roles with other notable teams, such as the U18 AAA Winnipeg Ice and the Interlake Lightning female U18 AAA team, and worked within various school divisions across Manitoba.
