Poilievre Vows to Trigger Non-Confidence Vote Against Trudeau Government as Parliament Resumes
Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre has announced plans to initiate a non-confidence motion against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government at the earliest opportunity when Parliament reconvenes this fall. Poilievre is urging Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to join forces with the Conservatives to bring down the Liberal government.
“It’s put up or shut up time for the NDP,” Poilievre declared to reporters outside Parliament Hill’s West Block on Wednesday. His remarks follow NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s recent decision to terminate the supply-and-confidence agreement with the Liberals, which had provided crucial support to the minority government for over two years. Poilievre criticized Singh’s move as a political maneuver, noting its timing just days before two federal byelections and the return of the House of Commons.
Poilievre is positioning the upcoming vote as a test of commitment for Singh, stating that if the NDP leader has indeed ended the agreement, he must now vote in favor of non-confidence. This development comes amid growing political tensions as parties prepare for the possibility of a federal election.
