2025 UTME Kicks Off Smoothly Across FCT and Other Nigerian States
The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), officially commenced today across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other states of the federation. The nationwide computer-based test (CBT), which marks a crucial step for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions, is scheduled to run for several days.
In Abuja and surrounding areas, the exercise began on a smooth note, with reports indicating that many CBT centres opened as early as 6:30 a.m. to prepare for the influx of candidates. Security personnel, examination supervisors, and technical support staff were on ground to ensure that logistics, identity verification, and coordination were well managed.
A visit to several CBT centres in the FCT revealed that candidates arrived early, with many expressing optimism and confidence ahead of the exam. JAMB officials were seen coordinating the biometric verification process, which has been instrumental in reducing cases of impersonation and exam malpractice in recent years.
The Board’s spokesperson reiterated that all necessary measures have been put in place to guarantee a seamless conduct of the 2025 UTME. He noted that technical teams were deployed across all regions to address any unexpected challenges promptly.
Across other states including Lagos, Rivers, Kaduna, and Enugu, similar reports of orderly conduct were recorded. Most candidates who sat for the first session of the examination confirmed that the systems functioned effectively and that questions were fairly distributed across all subjects.
This year’s UTME is particularly significant due to the introduction of updated syllabi and subject content, which candidates were advised to study in preparation. Educational stakeholders have lauded JAMB for continually improving the standard of its examinations and ensuring equal access for candidates regardless of location.
Parents and guardians, who waited anxiously outside examination centres, expressed satisfaction with the process and praised the efficiency of the exam body. Some even noted an improvement in time management and candidate supervision compared to previous years.
The examination is expected to continue throughout the week, with JAMB closely monitoring all activities through its real-time surveillance system. Candidates who are yet to write their papers have been urged to arrive early, comply with all guidelines, and remain calm.
JAMB has also advised all candidates to check their exam slips regularly for date, time, and venue to avoid confusion or lateness. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and integrity in the examination process.
As the 2025 UTME progresses, all eyes are on how the exam body manages logistics across Nigeria’s vast educational landscape, especially in remote or less-developed areas. Early indicators suggest a well-organized start, setting the stage for what may be one of the most successful UTME exercises in recent history.
