Ingleside Driver Faces Charge in Fatal Collision That Killed Teen Cyclist Near Cornwall

A 46-year-old driver from Ingleside, Ontario, has been charged in connection with a tragic collision last summer that claimed the life of a teenage cyclist just outside Cornwall.

Ontario Provincial Police announced Wednesday that the accused is set to appear in court in Cornwall on March 18 to face a charge of careless driving causing death. The incident has deeply affected the local community, sparking conversations about road safety and cyclist awareness in the region.

The victim, 14-year-old Charlotte Light, was struck while cycling east on the westbound shoulder of County Road 2, just west of Long Sault, on August 30, 2024. The fatal crash has left family, friends, and residents heartbroken as they mourn the loss of a young life full of promise.

Emergency responders arrived to find off-duty firefighters and bystanders performing life-saving measures in an effort to resuscitate Light. Despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a devastating end to a tragic accident that shook the community.

Her family described her as a joyful, “well-rounded kid” with a passion for soccer and a bright future ahead. She had been excited to begin her first year of high school, a milestone she never had the chance to experience. Loved ones continue to grieve, remembering her for the kindness, energy, and enthusiasm she brought to those around her.

The case has drawn attention to the importance of road safety for cyclists and drivers alike. As the accused prepares for their court appearance, many in the community are hoping for justice while advocating for stronger measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
